beating Virginia Ruano Pascual of Spain 6-2, 6-0. In the third round most likely Saturday, Serena takes on Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain.

Serena Williams Next Play The French Open
05.23.2009 Paris-- Serena Williams has been seeded second at the French Open, which begins Sunday. Serena's first match will be Monday
or Tuesday versus Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic.
At the French Open, Serena could face (7)Svetlana Kuzentsova in the quarterfinals and (4)Elena Dementieva or
(5)Jelena Jankovic in the semifinals. Should she advance to the final, Serena could meet her sister (3)Venus Williams or (1)Dinara Safina.
Serena Williams Loses Her Last Three Matches
05.10.2009 Rome-- After having fallen recently to number two in the WTA Tour rankings, Serena Williams of the USA has battled
a leg injury which has in part caused her to lose her last three matches in a row. Last month in the Miami final, an injured
Williams lost to the 11th seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus 6-3, 6-1. Then in her opening match at Marbella,
Spain, the American lost to the 95th ranked Klara Zakapalova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

And finally last week the 20th ranked Patty Schynder of Switzerland upset Williams in the Rome second round 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.
Serena next plays at Madrid this week. She could face her sister Venus Williams in the quarterfinals.

Serena Williams Loses Her Last Four Tournaments, #1
04.13.2009 CHARLESTON-- After some injury problems and some inspired play from her other opponents, Serena Williams
is set to fall from a WTA Tour ranking of 1 to 2 Monday. Williams has won the last two grand slams played; the US Open and the Australian Open,
but she also failed to defend many of her 2008 rankings points this year which will result in world number two Dinara Safina of Russia
overtaking her in the rankings.
After winning the Australian Open in January, Williams withdrew injured in the Paris semifinals, then lost to her sister Venus Williams
in the Dubai semfinals. Williams was able to reach the final of Miami, before struggling again with an injury which prevented her from
playing anywhere close to her best tennis. Finally last week Williams lost her opening match at Spain before she withdrew from this week's
WTA Tour stop at Charleson, South Carolina.

After winning the Australian Open in January, Serena was forced out of the Paris Open in the semifinals due to a knee injury. Two
weeks ago, Serena lost in the Dubai semifinals to Venus 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(7-3). Williams, ranked number one, is 16-2 this year.
