10.02.2008 STUTTGART-- Wednesday at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in the second round, Na Li of China shocked world number
one Serena Williams of the USA 0-6, 6-1, 6-4. Williams will lose her top ranking Monday.
At the start of the week Williams led world number two Jelena Jankovic of Serbia by only 21 WTA Tour rankings points. With Williams'
loss Wednesday, Jankovic is set to move ahead regardless of her result this week. Williams remains in doubles at Stuttgart where she

Serena Williams Wins US Open, Regains Top Ranking
09.08.2008 NEW YORK-- Serena Williams won her third US Open title Sunday night defeating Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 7-5 and returns to the
world's number one ranking Monday.
The American Williams, seeded 4th, did not drop a set in the two weeks at New York despite facing 10 set points in a 7-6(8-6), 7-6(9-7)
quarterfinal win versus her sister and Wimbledon champion Venus Williams
and also facing setpoints Sunday night. ?I'm so excited. I wasn't even going for number one. It's just an added bonus,? Williams said.

08.22.2008 NEW YORK-- Tennis' final grand slam, the US Open, begins Monday at New York. The singles draws were released Thursday
with former champion Venus Williams of the USA drawn to possibly meet her sister Serena Williams in the quarterfinals.
Both Williams sisters' rankings have dropped in recent years due to the shortened schedules due to injuries which
have limited their play on the WTA Tour. Partly for this reason Serena Williams is seeded 4th while Venus Williams is
